Overview

Karkas Mountain (3895m)

Karkas Mount is located among Iran central mountains in Isfahan Province. The goal is to climb Karkas Summit with an elevation of 3895 metres and of course you should be well trained for mountain climbing. For having more time to explore and enjoy all the mount beauties, the best plan is to leave Isfahan in the afternoon and sleep in a shelter on the way overnight. There are many ways to reach this summit, we choose a Southern way, called Keshe which takes the shortest time, averagely 5-6 hours, hiking on moderate/high slopes.

We start our journey near a river called Tarqrud, 25 km from Natanz and move to a tourist center close to Isfahaniha spring. From here, a dirt road starts toward the North until we get to the Liasen Spring, which is surrounded by walnuts trees. From here, the way gets very steep. After passing a waterfall, we get to the Karkas shelter, which is the only shelter in this area and was built by Isfahan mountaineers community. It includes 3 rooms and a hall and 60 mountaineers can accommodate inside easily.

The clean rooms, adequate facilities and being near the spring are nice features of this shelter. So we rest there overnight and in the morning, start trekking on a sloppy dirt road along a sand area. As we hike the mount, you can see a historical dome named the Gonbad-e Baz (Hawk Dome) from some distance. Let’s talk about this monument story. The Safavid king, Shah Abbas had a favorite hawk which got injured by an eagle and after some days it died. The king got so upset that he ordered to build this tomb for the hawk.

The Hawk Dome is an octagonal construction made of bricks and plaster. It includes a dome and eight hollows on the bottom, established on a stone board, 2000 meters from the ground. This dome is considered as a masterpiece in Persian architecture due to its mathematical calculations and amazing decorations. We continue hiking our way till we see the skyline and the Karkas summit. Indeed, it’s a great achievement and you’ll feel like being on the top of the world.

Note: You need to bring proper shoes for mountain climbing, warm clothes, backpack, sleeping bag.

Patient and informative. 5star tour guide. We were a group of 4.Thanks to our last moment schedule we had not booked a tour. Tappersia was kind enough to let the local tour guide know and he was very promptly arranged to meet us for the FREE ISFAHAN WALKING TOUR. Amin was the tour guide. He greeted us warmly as we entered Chehre Sotoon palace and what started there ended up with it being the most interesting walk of my life. He was patient with our queries and waited as our mixed group which had people from Spain and Argentina with us.... As info had to be translated for them to Spanish. A free walk in any part of the world usually lasts for an hour or two.... Not amin he would treat all our doubts and questions with respect and answer them.... Ended up with the free walk lasting more than half a day. Will go with 4/5 stars for Amin.

Most relaxed holiday thanks to Tappersia We came to Iran in a troubled time so booked everything through Tappersia just so that we would feel a bit more secure but the experience was beyond expectations. I have never had a more relaxed holiday. Everything was already booked for us; we had a private car picking us up every time we changed places, offering tours and stops in between all this on a very affordable price and always being there for every question we had. Totally recommend!

Our guide was the best!

It is simply impossible to write a 5-star review that would do justice to our guide, and the fun time we had, but I will do my best, first of all, Sohrab was just beyond anything I expected. I was so touched by his love for hiking. I appreciated his kindness in helping me stay on my feet when walking around. I highly recommend this tour.
